When I was 8 years old I was pulled out of the class choir to sing on my own, 'McNulty' said Mr.Brophy, 'you sing like a pig'. A bit cruel maybe but he did have a point. Thirteen years later and I'm on stage, sort of playing guitar, with new Liverpool hopefuls Eat My Dog at the Earthbeat Festival in Sefton Park. Three songs into a four song set and I'm not doing very well so I put the guitar down and left the stage. From then on I stayed strictly behind the camera and Eat My Dog were probably the first band I hung out with and photographed on a regular basis. And they were awful.
'Pop Cultured : The Music Photography of Mark McNulty' is my new book and will be released on University Press in September 2008. It will be preceded by an exhibition, in multiple venues, that will open at the end of May. The book is about two obsessions, photography and music, and features my music and club related work from the past twenty years. Here's a small selection though some of the other images are featured across the music pages of this site.
